For years I have been collecting all kinds of metal objects that I find at flea markets. I’m particularly fond of the interesting and varied shapes of rug beaters, and two of my favorites inspired these artworks. These simple but beautifully designed items were used before the invention of vacuum cleaners, to rid carpets, bedding and clothing of dust. I like the whimsical sound of Mattenklopper and Wicker Slapper, other names for these fanciful objects.
